Why do the Japanese point at their noses to show “me”?

No idea, and it’s pointing at chest here in Korea, same as Europe and America. In fact, I’ve always told my students that it is only the Japanese who point at their noses. The book I’m reading on Thailand also says it happens there, though. Could it be a Buddhist thing, what with the Thai taboo about touching people’s heads as they are the seat of the soul and all that is good??
