Why is the burger loving clown “Donald MacDonald” in Japan?

The MacDonalds management were worried that the Japanese wouldn’t be able to pronounce “Ronald”

    But Donald is a part of McDonald anyway? I mean they already say “makudonarudo” so why can’t they say “ronarudo”? Sounds pretty hilarious when you say it out loud doesn’t it? Why didn’t they just call him John or something…

    Actually when you really translate it into English- Donald Son of MacDonald- it sounds kind of cool. I think explaining that Mac meant son of was my most popular cultural tidbit yet in Japan, especially when I explained that it as the same form and meaning as the Bin from Bin Laden

    Yeah i guess so, it’s kind of one of those word tricks that say the same at the beginnng and end, what’s it called i can’t remember, but, yeah donald mac donald…haha :) Good point!
