Why is a bit of cleavage still so daring in Japan?

It’s at least partly the danger of low cut becoming very revealing when you bow

I found it funny in Japan, i wore a singlet that had thin straps therefore exposing my bra straps that were slightly wider. The Jap guys couldn’t stop staring and the girls were looking at me funny too. My husband explained that women never wore their clothes like that, in fact, it was the middle of tsuyu and they were all rugged up in cardigans so as not to get sunburnt or something…maybe too self concious i think. But yeah…it was very funny for a land where guys read Hentai comics on the train, but bra straps shown in public is a taboo? Weird!

Thailand is the same- until a few yeara ago a woman with a strappy top meant a very particular kind of woman, if you know what I mean, but a short skirt didn’t necessarily. Not sure why they should be the same
