He was raised in Takarazuka, famous its theatre with an all-female cast.

Tezuka wrote an unpublished comic in 1944-45 in which popular American and Japanese comic strip characters were at war with each other, including Mickey Mouse strafing Osaka (The Astro Boy Essays pg 27)
